Whaea Anouk's Korero Around Compost Gardening Was An Awesome Experience We Cant Wait To Use These Facts For Our Garden

Whaea Anouk’s Korero

  • Compost (Why?)

  • (Ed-Sheeran Songs) Do you know how much food gets wasted?
  • Your food is a landfill
  • 1.3billion food gets wasted A day

1.3000000 x 10000 Food gets wasted

21,000000 of bread gets thrown away.

New Zealand throws away 122,547 tones of food a year. That is 122,547 100 kilograms.
That is 213 jumbo jets of food that has to go somewhere to rot instead of being eaten. All of this food is worth about 5872 million each year.
Nearly half of your rubbish is usually organic waste…
The rubbish has to go to the rubbish dump and it shouldn’t be left around on the ground.

Our rubbish gets burried in a landfill this is a big hole in the ground so if we put our food in the bin this is where it ends up.

30 x 12 = 360
When organic waste like food or plants starts to break down in the landfill a polluted liquid is produced called ‘leachate’. This is often toxic.

  • If there is an old landfill and we dump our rubbish there all of the waste food on the landfill sinks into the ground and cause the water under ground to create poison.

Organic waste in a landfill also produces methane gas.
We can compost anything if it can biodegrade- (rot) we call this organic waste.
+Composting puts important nutrients back into the soil. These nutrient help us to grow healthy plants fruits and vegetable it’s healthy to.

(Facts Around The Composting Video)
  • The average rubbish at home is filled with waste
  • Compost makes everything go around
  • Worms have five heart and they breathe thru there skin nitroxide is away they breathe.Worms eat heaps but they have no teeth. Tiger worms are the best worms to have because they chew fast thru the soil.
  • Worms can get burnt from sunlight that’s why they stay in a nice moist home. If your compost is too wet you can add the bit more paper, if it’s too dry you can a bit more water.
  • If you have a worm farm you don’t feed them too much. Lay two about 1 egg a week which forms 5 worms. Make sure to take out the food scraps when they start getting moldy. Worms love Paper bags, cardboards bags and shiny paper. There’s no such thing as a girl worn or boy worm there all the same.If you can see a big thing on a worm it’s called a clitelum. When the clitelum peels of it forms a egg. Worms eat there own body weight. If you add plastic into your compost it does not rot. Every little piece of plastic still exist and it's gets cut into small pieces and its poisonous the chemicals which contains poison in your water.
